Free-to-air broadcasters will broadcast both in digital and analogue formats until at least the end of 2013, so you will still be able to watch the same programs whatever kind of receiver you have. However to gain the full benefits of digital television (especially HDTV) you will need a digital receiver. The addition of a digital-to-analogue converter in the form of a set-top box will allow use of an analogue television set beyond the end of 2013.
