The Weatherproof LCD flat panel displays are designed to be mounted outside, however when sunlight shines directly on to the LCD glass front panel, the sunlight will convert to heat (the same effect a solar cell or glass house has). Given how bright and warm the day is, the temperature will soon grow and can easily build up to over 85C. This has the effect of pushing the LCD panel far beyond the 45C operating temperature specification. The result is the LCD glass panel goes dark, as the liquid crystal is operating outside its temperature range. The darkening effect is only temporary and the LCD panel will return to normal viewing once the sun moves away. The advice is to mount the LCD panel under shade or have it facing in a south east direction to avoid direct shining sunlight. Sunlight falling on the back of the LCD panel will have little effect, unless it is a very hot day.
